SMARTPHONE MAKER Samsung has launched the second version of its popular Galaxy S phone in South Korea, with a global launch planned for next month.
The Galaxy S II has one of Samsung's dual-core processors and is slimmer than the original. It also features a larger display.
The phone is available immediately on the SK Telecom, KT Corp and LG Uplus carriers in South Korea. Samsung has plans to launch it with a further 140 carriers in 120 countries in May.
The original Galaxy S has sold 14 million units since its June 2010 launch, while Samsung is aiming for 10 million sales of the revamped model this year. It is hoping to sell a total of 60 million smartphones throughout 2011.
Samsung is currently embroiled in a heated legal battle with Apple over patents. Apple sued it claiming the company had copied its designs, and Samsung countersued on similar grounds. The outcome of that litigation might affect availability and sales of the Galaxy S II.
