US PSN customers to get a year of ID protection

Sony Computer Entertainment said it will provide a year's complimentary subscription to  PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders in the United States only.
The embattled outfit said it has made arrangements with Debix, Inc., an identity protection firm, to offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders for 12 months.
U.S customers will be receiving activation emails for the scheme "over the next few days", Sony said in a blog posting.
AllClear ID Plus apparently trawls the Internet for customers' information. If such information is  discovered, the customer is alerted by phone and/or email and gets advice on what to do next. The customer also gets monthly identity status reports.
Included in the package is $1 million of identity theft insurance and access to identity restoration specialists. The insurance would provide financial relief to cover restoration costs, legal defence expenses, and lost wages that occur within 12 months after the stolen identity event.
